Hello and welcome to
's very own guide to Springans!Springans is an Xyz-centric archetype released with the new Scarred Resonance Main Box alongside their own Archive Skill: Springans Joining. Though its place in the current metagame is yet unclear, it's a fun combo-oriented deck that has some pretty unique interactions. Without further ado, let's spring into Springans!
Main Deck Monsters
We're basically running 2 types of Main Deck monsters: Springans and Fallen of Albaz due to synergy with the Skill. Some variants also chose to include a small Dogmatika package due to incidental synergy, which I'll cover briefly later.
Springans
All Springans Main Deck monsters are FIRE Machine monsters that share the following effect:
"If this card is in your hand, field, or GY: You can target 1 "Springans" Xyz Monster you control; attach this card to it as material."
Think of them as ammunition being loaded onto weapons, which would be the Xyz monsters. This effect allows you to make full use of your Springans Xyz, which we'll cover later. You'll also notice that Brothers, Rockey and Pedor are all Level 4 while the larger Branga and Captain Sargas are Level 8, which will prove important for Xyz plays.
For now, let's discuss each individual Springans card!
Springans Brothers
3 of in the deck
Loading... ' unique effect allows it to revive a Springans monster in your Graveyard, if it is sent from the hand or Deck to the Graveyard. There are many ways within the archetype to trigger this effect, and it works wonderfully to extend your plays, making it THE best Main Deck Springans monster in my opinion.
Springans Rockey
2-3 of in the deck
On Summon, Loading... is able to retrieve any Springans card or "Loading... " from your Graveyard. This recursion also allows you to extend your plays and have access to discard fodder for later on. 2 to 3 copies are usually fine!
Springans Pedor
0-1 of in the deck
Loading... can Tribute itself to revive a Springans monster with a different name from your Graveyard. It's a pretty decent effect which comes up occasionally, but the card is searchable enough that you usually don't need more than one copy in your Deck.
Springans Branga
1-2 of in the deck
The first Level 8 of the archetype, Loading... can banish itself and another Springans card to search any Springans card from your Deck. This effect is really useful for extension, but a bit too cost-heavy to warrant running too many copies.
Springans Captain Sargas
1 of in the deck
The leader of the bunch! On top of the ability to attach itself as Xyz material, Loading... has two additional effects:
- While it is an Xyz material from a Springans Xyz monster, it gives it a bonus 500 ATK;
- During your opponent's turn, it can detach a material from any Xyz monster you control to target and destroy a face-up card.
There are a couple of Turn 1 setups that make it live alongside other Xyz monsters, but these are usually not as good as your other setups. Still, Captain Sargas is a safe and reliable 1-of, if only for its ATK boost effect.
