Subterror

KC Cup DLv. Max from on April 11th, 2025

Notes & Combos

Somewhat of a hard DLv MAX, mainly because of Konami RNG (0.20% hands and the like), or opponent having the one-of they need (e.g. Monster Reborn in Ancient Warrior, Neos Fusion in Predaplant).

Notable matchups: Salamangreat, Lyrilusc, HERO, Predaplant, Tri-Brigade, Resonator.

Of these, the hardest were Lyrilusc (going 1st or 2nd), HERO (when I'm going 1st), and Resonator (only when I'm going 1st). Ironically, I have preferred to go 2nd in most of the matchups. Better draws mattered.

  • Against Lyrilusc, always try to negate Bird Sanctuary from attaching, or if they are being defensive with Nightingale, negate that protection effect. You just want it to be small enough (ideally < 1600) to attack over.
  • Against HERO I save negates for Rainbow Neos, and Stratos pop. Sometimes in topdeck mode you negate the last card in hand. The reason why I prefer going 2nd vs HERO is I can bait Super Poly more easily with Umastryx from deck.
  • Against Salamangreat I just save Fiendess or Veiler for Pyro Phoenix if I went 1st. If I went 2nd, I negate Burning Shell so they can't use Stallio as material nor make Pyro Phoenix with Transcendence all at once.
  • Against Predaplant, always play around Hydra existing, but save the negate for Neos Fusion if possible. Other than that, Final Battle solos the preda counters.

A few tips when running this deck:

  • If you set Final Battle from your hand, you get to draw a card, then... if only your opponent had a monster, you can set a Behemoth from the hand/Deck. If you did control a monster, you still get to draw 1 (but don't get to set from hand/Deck).
  • A monster that is flipped face-down and face-up in the same Battle Phase that has declared an attack is considered to have declared the attack already, so no cheesing there.
  • Monsters flipped face-down that were summoned that turn cannot flip up, except by Final Battle and Hidden City, so save those effects for the monsters that were summoned that turn.
  • Face-down monsters cannot gain a negated status (i.e. from Effect Veiler, Droplet, Lost Wind, etc), so for example, CL1 Umastryx banish, CL2 Veiler, CL3 Guru flip down Umastryx, CL4 Lost Wind target Umastryx. It resolves normally and the opponent's monster is banished because by the time you return to CL1, Umastryx is already face-down, and Lost Wind and Veiler's effects are no longer applying.
