Notes & Combos

I made King of Games with a classic Dragons list. It is an unoriginal and boring list, so there is not much to explain. The only thing I could say is that I added 3 x Phantom Bind instead of other Spell/Trap cards just because on ladder pretty much every body plays Dragons. This just makes a very boring metagame right now. Hopefully the new limitations shake it a little bit and brings more fun.

I tried to do all the climb with Kimeruler, and it was smooth from Silver 4 to Gold 5. On the contrary, getting the 5 win streak for King of Games was difficult and I switched to Dragons for the final push. I probably played too many Spell/Traps, hands got bricky and that didn't let me play my boss monsters efficiently, and I really like being able to play my cards. Dragons allows me to do that more often. I think that the introduction of relevant Spell/Trap cards has made several decks brickier than before.

Before there was relevant Spell/Trap interaction, the game was about casting your boss monsters and use them to win. The boss monsters require other small monsters as sacrifice, but all decks had a lot of room for those, so playing your boss monsters was pretty easy.

Now that Spell/Trap cards are powerful and game-deciding sometimes, it is mandatory to play them in many decks. That allows for less room for small monsters needed to cast your boss monsters, therefore casting them has become more difficult, and the game feels bricky and Heart-of-the-Cards dependent at times, at least from my perspective. I do not like playing decks that can incur into that. It is also possible that I do not play those kind of decks good enough, so my opinion might change if I were to get a better player.
