Notes & Combos

Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I hope everyone's having a fantastic 2025 and staying warm during these cold Winter months. New Year means a new King of Games entry from myself, the most well-known Altergeist player in the community. I'll go over my tech choices and how I feel Altergeist stands in the metagame right now in this HERO Gauntlet ladder we're in.

As it stands, Altergeist is actually not that bad right now if you can avoid the Dragonmaid players like I did. Dragonmaid is an automatic loss on this deck (cause of Dragonmaid Downtime) and as for the deck that's being spammed right now (HERO), Altergeist fares well into them. Bottomless Trap Hole banishing Rainbow Neos was huge in fighting back against HERO and Needle Ceiling being my reliable board breaker has yet to let me down. No one expects Needle Ceiling anymore ever since its limit 3 status and I do feel like Needle Ceiling still carries games all on its own.

As for the new trap, Titanocider, I like it, but it's just not the right meta for it. We need to deviate away from a metagame where you click yellow button to spawn boss monster to a more Extra Deck focused metagame for Titanocider to be worth running. Right now, it's just not it for Titanocider to thrive in. Darn shame too cause I can't flex my prismatic Titanociders cause the card isn't good right now.

I also cut Ningirsu package for Kidolga since Lyrilusc is not played much and Kidolga sacked me a ton of wins by stealing Armed Dragon Thunder Level 10 against HEROES. Kidolga is severely underrated, don't sleep on it. The Ferrijit sitting there was my flex card of choice for this month cause Ferrijit was the waifu I saw from the new box, so I had to include her.

I was also trying Ed's build with x2 Meluseek and no Pookuery, but that build kept bricking so I went back to my usual build with x3 Meluseek and x1 Pookuery and secured the King of Games easily enough. This run was still very difficult regardless though and after testing, Pookuery is just too much gas for me to pass up. Here's hoping the next banlist can alleviate the HERO Gauntlet we're in. I don't hate HERO, but facing them for many games in a row is just boring due to lack of deck diversity.

My past five games this time around were consisted of Tachyon Dragon Domination (Mizar), Precious Cards of the Dark Unchained (Yami Bakura), Shadow-Weaving Power Shaddoll (Sera), Dragonic Contact HERO (Jaden), and my King of Games match Overlay Control Invoked Suship (Dumon).
