It took a little bit of time, but this deck is so much fun to use and finally reach KoG! Patience is key, play smart, especially by having an idea of the kinds of cards certain characters or archetypes have (and it helps people don't read sometimes xP)

  • Cloud is a great graveyard recovery resource (unless your spells/traps get banished) especially to provide Phantom Knights fodder for essentially no expense if you decide to summon it.
  • If you have more handtraps, you can use snow and place snowy & thundery canvas. If not, be more defensive and use snowy & cloudy canvas.
  • Cloudy canvas in the center is a defensive strategy since all the painters can use it to dodge and in case for late game when you're running out of resources to get from snowy canvas. Thundery canvas in the middle is an aggressive strategy as you can get rid of all monsters.
  • The biggest weakness to this deck is when your opponent banishes your spells/traps as you have no means of recovering them. Fortunately, most people use MST but some still use cosmic cyclone. For that reason, Dark Magician was actually a hard match-up at times, but also Witchcrafter. For monster-negating monsters, Santa Claws took care of them.
  • Only used Shark or Phantom Knights, once Trishula due to Floodgate.
  • Valhalla isn't necessary, I just had it and it was useful at times.

Overall, this is a fun and wonderful, non-meta deck to (sorta) counter the current meta! Take your time, develop your strategies/personal style, and you'll reach KoG soon enough ;)

nice build. weather painters were my go-to KOG deck before I quit DL last year. I plan to come back some time next month and maybe climb from silver to plat or legend while I build a new one using painters again. How many games did it take you to kog?

Hey thanks! Yeah most of these cards were from old boxes except for the XYZ and Wightprincess. I probably used Nightmare Shark evenly with Phantom Knights, so if you can get those cards, great! The others were there just in case, but I never used them. If you don't want to go for Santa Claws, Lava Golem is fine, but: it's a 2-card cost & not every player has two monsters available, you can't normal summon that turn, and it has high attack that can overcome a painter if you don't have Wightprincess on hand. There is also an alien card I believe that can tribute on your opponent's side. But to finally answer your question! 😂 I was originally trying to reach KoG with Fossil Warriors but then decided to get Weather Painters. My current battle count is 143, and I would honestly say it's evenly split between the two, if not actually using Fossil Warriors more than I did Weather Painters. So, to use a generous estimate, I'd say 70-ish battles with Painters to reach KoG. Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions!

nice, I have a couple volcanic queens that I got from selection boxes but I think i have spare sr dream tix but I'll hold into it for a bit until I decide my next deck. might pull some wrightprincesses as well but for now I'll use sphere kuribohs temporarily. thanks!

Volcanic queen is a good option too! Just no normal summoning that turn so make sure you have a hand-trap ready or a decent board set-up by then. I wouldn't use up an SR Dream Ticket for Santa Claws, but it's great if you get it by chance! I def recommend getting the Wightprincesses though as they are becoming a staple in many decks.

What's the use of the Wightprincess?

It helps to lower the attack of your opponent's monsters and helps save you from OTKs, getting just enough damage to do D. Draw, or losing a Painter. It's especially great with Snow as Snow has an incredibly high defense (2200) and is only level 3, so it only loses 900 def and leaves it at 1300 def, which can definitely help it survive.
