Notes & Combos
If you're looking for a viable Shark list in the current meta, then look away.
However, if you're interested on seeing my thought process on how this came to be, then keep reading:
Remora is a really fun card to use alongside Buzzsaw, but the lack of Rank 4s that could function materialess (not a real word but whatever) really turns off the mood for me. Luckily, we have a skill that allows us to feed the hungry dark creatures with a spell card in hand, which opens a whole lot of new possibillites.
Kudos to sevathubie for getting Top 32 in Meta Weekly #195 in September of 2021 with a Shark deck using said skill. It really did get my brain to move a lot.
One of the ideas that popped up was "What if any spell in the hand is a Silent Angler?". This way, my entire board would be composed of 3 Xyz monsters (1 Empty in the EMZ, 1 WATER Xyz (Abyss Dweller/Hope Woven), and another generic Rank 4).
This may sound like a decent idea at first but we all know that Aunt May quote from The Ultimate Spider-Man: "With great ideas come **** bad executions".
Now, I'm not saying that all great Ideas have/had bad first impressions, but this was certainly the case for mine.
My first attempt was to use Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity and Wind-Up Shark since Buzzsaw could go into Rank 3s and 5s with Lantern. The results? 2500 gems were wasted that day. You have to run 2 garnets (Lantern and Wind-Up Shark) and if you ever draw into any one of them, then Ave Maria.
My second attempt was to use Daigusto Emeral and a Normal Fish (7-Colored Fish in this case) since I can detach it from Abyss Dweller so that I could bring it back with Emeral. This may sound better because of how you run less garnets that the last one, but this time, the said card is a True Garnet. Unlike Lantern and Wind-Up, which both could at the very least contribute to the gameplan, the Rainbow fish does literally nothing!
My third and final attempt was to use Force Strix to search out Singing Lanius, the only Raidraptor special summon that doesn't xenolock you. This is the best one by far because of how Singing Lanius could actually be useful when you open it alongside other cards. The main drawback is how you are left with an empty Force Strix that lives rent free in the EMZ (which wouldn't be a problem if we had Drill Driver Vespenato!).
Speaking of Vespenato, it would really be a fine addition to my collection because of how you can rank up Force Strix (make you you activate the effect beforehand!) to it and still have enough materials for Remora's detach (Which means that the skill is not necessary for the Raidraptor line).
Lastly, here are some other problems that the deck suffers from:
- Low ceiling, both in power and skill (for now)
- Very rigid ED
- Konami using Flex Seal to hold the leaked SD hostage
- You will rarely ever pull off the epic raptor combo
In conclusion, this deck, like the OceanGate Submarine, is pretty experimental. It's not all doom and gloom though, I really enjoyed the process of trying to push the deck to its limits, and that's what really matters to me.
If you have anything that you want to ask, or any ideas that could help the deck, please feel free to do so down in the comment section!
Replays
My replays are VERY WEAK so I will give the one where I actually pulled off the combo: https://duellinks.konami.net/att/0795a28b2785007e9e53ed243597621f6873f87b34
